The Student Music Project Music Seminar introduces students and community groups to music performance, teamwork, creative expression, mentorship, and careers in the music and entertainment industries. A student-musician band leads each seminar, combining live performance with demonstrations, hands-on activities, personal career stories, and career exploration. Students aren’t simply watching a concert — live performance becomes a teaching tool for creativity, preparation, communication, collaboration, professionalism, and career development.

Students meet the Student Music Project team and the musicians and set the goals for the session.
11:10–11:30 · Music Seminar: Meet the Musicians
Each musician shares their instrument, training, influences, practice habits, and career path, with short live demonstrations.
11:30–11:45 · Live Performance & Band Demonstration
The student-musician band performs a short set; students listen for rhythm, melody, leadership, and improvisation.
11:45–12:05 · Interactive Music Workshop
Students become participants through call-and-response, rhythm exercises, and the signature “Build a Song” activity.
12:05–12:25 · Music & Career Lunch
Lunch with the musicians — an informal “Lunch With a Musician” mentorship conversation, not an intermission.
12:25–12:40 · Music Industry Career Exploration
Students build a music career map that reaches far beyond the stage.
12:40–12:55 · Musician Mentorship & Q&A
Direct access to the musicians: auditions, practice, confidence, finding mentors, and getting a first gig.
12:55–1:00 · Reflection, Evaluation & Closing
Students reflect on what they learned and which careers interested them most.
By the end of the seminar, participants can identify jazz instruments, describe what makes jazz distinctive, explain how musicians work together, ask a professional musician a question, describe real careers in music, and reflect on what they learned — alongside a first-hand experience of live performance and respectful audience etiquette.
The career-exploration portion shows students how many people it takes to create a successful performance — and the many pathways open to them.

Pricing is staggered by the number of sessions — the more sessions a school or partner commits to, the lower the per-session rate.

Each price covers up to 25 students. For 26–35 students, add $20 per additional student; larger groups receive a custom quote. A reduced rate applies when the school provides lunch.
These are our set program rates. Transportation and staffing are billed separately, and rates cover programs within the City of Boston — travel charges may apply outside the city. A written quote and agreement are provided before any booking is confirmed.
